Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes
Difficulty Level: Medium
Servings: 4 servings
Ingredients:
For the Apple Layer:
- 2 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Fuji)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the Flan Custard:
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk (or plant-based milk)
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Apple Layer:
- Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges.
- In a small pan, melt the butter over medium heat and add the apple slices.
- Sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon over the apples, and cook for 5-7 minutes until the apples soften and become slightly caramelized. Set them aside to cool.
2. Prepare the Flan Custard:
- In a mixing bowl, whisk the eggs until smooth.
- Add the milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Whisk everything together until well combined.
3. Assemble the Flan:
- Grease 4 small ramekins or flan molds with butter or non-stick spray.
- Evenly distribute the cooked apple slices at the bottom of each ramekin.
- Pour the custard mixture over the apples in each ramekin, filling them about ¾ full.
4. Cook in the Air Fryer:
- Preheat your air fryer to 320°F (160°C) for 3-5 minutes.
- Place the ramekins in the air fryer basket. Cook for about 20-25 minutes, or until the custard is set and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- If you find that the top is browning too quickly, cover the ramekins with foil and continue cooking until done.
5. Cool and Serve:
- Once the flan is cooked, let it cool for 10-15 minutes at room temperature.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow it to set further.
- To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan and carefully invert onto plates.
Optional Garnish:
- You can garnish the apple flan with a dollop of whipped cream, a sprinkle of cinnamon, or a drizzle of caramel sauce for extra sweetness.
