Air Fryer Meringues Full Recipe
Preparation Time:
- Prep Time: 15 minutes
- Cook Time: 30-40 minutes
- Total Time: 45-55 minutes
Skill Level: Intermediate
Ingredients
- 2 large egg whites (room temperature)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar (optional, for stability)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (or other flavoring of choice)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Meringue Mixture
- In a clean, dry mixing bowl, add the egg whites and cream of tartar (if using).
- Using an electric mixer or a whisk, beat the egg whites on medium speed until they form soft peaks.
- Gradually add the sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while continuing to beat the mixture.
- Increase the speed to high and beat until stiff, glossy peaks form (about 5-7 minutes).
- Gently fold in the vanilla extract or other flavoring.
Step 2: Shape the Meringue
- Line the air fryer basket or tray with parchment paper.
- Use a spoon or a piping bag with a star tip to shape small mounds or designs of meringue onto the parchment paper.
- Leave some space between each to allow air circulation.
Step 3: Air Fry the Meringues
- Preheat the air fryer to 200°F (95°C) for 2-3 minutes.
- Place the tray with the meringue into the air fryer.
- Cook for 30-40 minutes at 200°F, checking halfway through to ensure they are cooking evenly.
- The meringues are done when they are dry and easily lift off the parchment paper.
Step 4: Cool and Serve
- Turn off the air fryer and let the meringues cool in the basket for 10-15 minutes.
- Transfer to a plate or an airtight container for storage.
Tips for Success
- Ensure your mixing bowl and beaters are completely grease-free, as fat can prevent the egg whites from whipping properly.
- Do not open the air fryer frequently during cooking, as temperature fluctuations can cause the meringues to collapse.
- Store the cooled meringues in an airtight container to keep them crisp for up to a week.
